Purpose

The Ventilation Technician will provide direction and technical support to the mine operations to ensure the ventilation systems are designed, installed and maintained in accordance with the Company policies and legislation. This position will report to the Ventilation Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ventilation surveys and maintain accurate plans and records of the mechanical ventilation system underground showing fan locations, air volumes handled by fans, fan operating gauge pressures, direction of main airflows, and location and function of fire & ventilation doors.
  • Update ventilation packages weekly and present to mine department.
  • Monitor performance of mine ventilation system and give input into required upgrades to infrastructure.
  • Design and schedule installation of auxiliary ventilation systems.
  • Monitor and initiate repairs to the auxiliary ventilation systems to ensure that regulatory compliance is maintained.
  • Maintain updated log of all ventilation test results; ensure they are accessible to JH&SC representative.
  • Review development plans to ensure that proper ventilation is supplied and provide input as to ventilation requirements.
  • Review and sign off all long-hole blast plans and provide input as to what is necessary to ventilate the blast and ensure that a plan is in place for clearing the area.
  • Participate as a member of the control group during an emergency.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Develop long-term ventilation plans aligned with long range plan for new mining areas.
  • Update the working Ventsim model.
  • Optimize auxiliary mine ventilation flow delivery and power efficiency.
  • Investigate new ventilation technologies for application.

Requirements

  • Technical degree in a mining-related field with specialization in ventilation
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an underground mine (preferred)
  • Understanding mine ventilation systems
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision making abilities
  • Efficient using, Deswik CAD and Ventsim or equivalent software
  • Underground survey experience considered an asset
  • Ability to positively interact with co-workers and team members

Working Conditions

The work schedule for this position is 14 on, 14 days off, working 12-hour days.
