Dimensions

We are seeking a motivated Senior Exploration Geologist to join our team, reporting directly to the Exploration Manager.

Purpose

  • Fully qualified and experienced professional geoscientist. 
  • Is a recognized expert in at least one field of geoscience or has demonstrated the ability to implement, manage, and complete assignments in two or more fields of geoscience with a minimum of technical supervision. 
  • Has considerable latitude for independent judgment, actions, and decisions, and has full professional competency. 
  • Commitment to drive KPI elements and assist others in meeting objectives 
  • Will ensure Global Standards and Guidance documents are followed and adhered to. 
  • Responsible for cultivating a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Is responsible for leading a small team of technical and non-technical staff. 
  • Competent in building annual budgets with little annual variance.
  • Will assist with semi-annual and annual Performance Management duties.
  • Will be responsible for the career development of staff. 
  • Employees must be knowledgeable and comply with regulatory health and safety regulations, company policies and procedures and the Company's environmental compliance policy. 
  • Employees will perform other duties as directed and needed by the Company to ensure optimal safe operation.

Essential Duties

  • Must be able to meet the requirements of a Project Geologist.
  • Champion safety by actively engaging staff and contractors by participating in Fatality Risk Management and other safety initiatives.
  • Lead stewardship of the environment and follow Newmont Mining Corp. Social Responsibility guidelines.
  • Is accountable for the quality of all geologic data.
  • Can recognize opportunities in procedures and processes to improve the business.
  • Ability to recognize business risks to geology and other technical functions impacted by geology.

  • Provide to direct reports objectives, evaluate performance and provide verbal and written feedback on career growth.

  • Provide training and growth opportunities to challenge team members while accomplishing site and corporate objectives
  • Duties may include budget preparation and submittal, cost tracking, completing projects on budget and within planned time frames, and achieve performance measures. Provide accurate explanations of budget variances.
  • Ability to evaluate/peer review 3 dimensional models.
  • Set and ensure timely completion of teams’ goals with respect to deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize and leverage diversity across the team.
  • Effectively communicate and represent the Exploration Team’s mission to senior management through presentations, budget reviews and technical reports.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of exploration development, or acquisition opportunities in a significant area of exploration activity on a major project or in a mine operation.
  • All senior level geologists are expected to be fully participating technical geologists. Additionally, any managerial or supervisory responsibilities, including: geologic mapping, drill core or chip logging, drill hole planning, drill program execution, computer deposit modeling, hydrologic and metallurgical investigations, etc.
  • Responsible for delivering on annual ounce ‘promises’
  • Must be able to obtain professional certification for endorsement of resources and reserves documents.
  • Effectively work across multi-functional lines.
  • Ability to navigate and fulfill the requirements as set by the Corporate Investment System for Geology.
  • Ability to manage databases.

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Geosciences or related field knowledge of geological, geochemical, and/or geophysical principles.
  • Typically has more than 8 to 10 years of industry experience in a mining or exploration environment.
  • Some or all of the industry experience can be substituted for additional graduate studies, e.g. a PhD, in the case of the research position.
  • Eligible for membership in professional scientific organizations.

Working Conditions

The work schedule for this position is 7 on, 7 days off, working 12-hour days.

This position is based at Newmont’s Musselwhite mine site, which is a fly-in/fly-out operation.
