Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role

Reporting to the Senior Underground Surveyor, The Underground Mine Surveyor is accountable for carrying out all aspects of surveying required at the Newmont Tanami Underground Operations as directed by the Senior Underground Surveyor. 

In this role, you will

  • Marking up and pickup of development headings, to ensure mine design compliance.
  • Marking up raisebore and production drill ring set outs.
  • Marking up and pickup of diamond drill holes.
  • Performing void monitoring using CMS/ CALS.
  • Installing new Survey stations
  • Installing development lasers as per designs.
  • Establishing and maintaining underground survey control to the highest possible standard.
  • End of month development reporting and reconciliation, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monthly development over break reporting.
  • Monthly stockpile surveys and volume calculations using UAV technology.
  • Surface exploration and topographical surveys as required.
  • Maintaining, upkeep and calibration of all survey instrumentation.
  • Managing all survey data in accordance with site specific procedures and instructions

The person

  • Tertiary qualifications in surveying.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Proficiency in the user of Leica Total stations and scanner
  • A basic knowledge of Deswik  survey software and Surpac is desirable
  • Exposure to UAV and Pix4d software would be advantageous.
  • Proactive attitude towards safety.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work unsupervised.

Working conditions

The role is based in Tanami and offers a FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin & Alice Springs.
