Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering modern leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The Role

Reporting to the Team Leader, The Gold Room Technician is responsible for the efficient running of the Newmont Goldcorp Tanami Operations, gold recovery circuits. They are a highly experienced operator with a greater level of responsibility with respect to gold security, impeccable accuracy and timely data recording of gold movements, effective operation of all gravity separation equipment, carbon recovery, elution, electro-winning and smelting processes. It is the Gold Room Technicians responsibility to ensure that production targets, process quality parameters and budgetary constraints are met and adhered to as determined by the Processing Plant Management Team.


The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Darwin & Alice Springs ONLY.


This position will have responsibility in delivery of the following for Granites Operations:

  • Safe production of gold bullion
  • Accurate and timely data recording following the Newmont Global Standard for gold accounting
  • Maintain integrity and improve Gold Security following the Newmont Global Standard for gold security
  • Required operator training and site specific competency assessment (with support from the L&D Dept. Trainers) for new Gold Room Technicians
  • Isolation requirements for Gold Room Circuits and associated chemical addition lines

The Person


  • “A” Class driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated experience with Permitting and Isolation systems and Processes.
  • Minimum Year 10 completion and pass with previous mineral processing experience essential within Gold Room Operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the statutory regulations relevant to safety and the environment for the mining industry.
  • Strong analytical skills, computer literacy and reporting ability.
  • Training in Job Safety Analysis.

To be considered, you must be able to meet the site access requirements by having a current driver’s license, passing a police clearance and pre-employment medical.
