Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

About the Role
Supporting our Tanami Sustaining Capital Projects (SCP) team you will be accountable for sound and relevant mechanical engineering advice for all phases of projects from concept through to commissioning.


Responsible for the support and development efforts required for application for expenditure (AFE) development and project execution, you will ensure that all work is conducted in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner whilst minimising the impact on production and ensuring compliance with Newmont Tanami Operation’s standards and statutory obligations.


About You

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering with substantial post graduate experience and significant engineering experience within a large-scale complex processing plant or heavy industry. (crushers, mills, conveyors, thickeners, belt filters, pumps, pressure vessels, cranes, etc.). 
  • Key exposure to areas including maintenance engineering, mechanical design, and rotating equipment reliability. 
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and experience including precision alignment and fitment, hydraulic systems, lubrication, materials selection, maintenance management systems, condition monitoring systems, and techniques.
  • Experienced with structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) engineering design and drafting to the relevant industry standards.
  • Ability to lead work teams and apply analytical think in problem solving based on prior experience and knowledge.
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, lead work teams.
  • Proof of current Covid-19 vaccination is required as per the NT Government direction.
