The Role
Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, we have an amazing opportunity for a Mechanical Apprentice (either fitter or boilermaker).
Based on site, you will learn through a mixture of on-the-job and classroom training. Working alongside our qualified Mechanical tradespersons, you will be involved in maintaining and repairing mechanical plant, machinery and instrumentation, fault finding equipment breakdowns and the installation of new equipment. The nominal term for this apprenticeship is 4 years.
The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Darwin, Perth, Brisbane or Alice Springs.
The Person
- Great attention to detail and a willingness to keep up to date with changing technology.
- An interest in Mechanical duties and FIFO lifestyle.
- Physically capable (12 hour shifts in a challenging environment, ability to lift 15kgs etc.)
- Enthusiasm to learn and use diagnostic skills and ability.
- Must be able to pass aptitude tests (numeracy, literacy and technical) skills.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment medical.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to analyse a task and understand the safety and job requirements.
- Willingness to commit to a 4 year apprenticeship commitment.
To be considered for this role, you must be able to meet the site access requirements by having a current driver’s license, passing a police clearance and pre-employment medical.

Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering modern leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.
