This role is responsible for leading all reverse mining related activities, mine plans, equipment, mining costs, and related project infrastructure.

Essential Duties

 

Mine Operations Management

  • Develop, review and approve mine plans (short and long-term).
  • Work closely with Engineering, HSLP, and contractors to ensure best practices and optimal production.
  • Manage contractors for Construction, Maintenance, and compliance.
  • Monitor and control operational costs.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws.
  • Work closely with QA/QC and regulators to insure compliance.
  • Assist with hiring, training, disciplinary, mentoring, line-of-progression, and other personnel-related actions.
  • Oversee meetings and training in for all levels of operations and maintenance and other key personnel.

Maintenance Planning/Scheduling

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the maintenance contractor to meet objectives and goals.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that result in optimum effectiveness, productivity and operating cost.
  • Take responsibility for the achievement of the plans and goals.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained.
  • Review and maintain Mine Maintenance reports.

Financial Management

  • Ensure capital expenditure will be within set target ranges, adjusted for changes in planning assumptions and decisions.
  • Approve purchases and expenditure within the delegated limits of authority.

Project Management

  • Promote projects and programs that provide continuous improvement in the areas of safety, environment, production and efficiency.
  • Lead development projects, including controlling and directing project status.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Follow all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont Goldcorp’s Integrated Management System, vision and values.
  • Conduct and complete incident / accident investigations and take corrective action to prevent injury and/or re-occurrence.

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and twelve (12) years mining experience or seventeen (17) years mining experience.

Advanced Knowledge of:

  • Operations and Maintenance principles and industry standards.
  • The work management process.
  • Planning and scheduling.
  • Operations, Projects, and Maintenance management.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in mining operations and maintenance (ideally at General Foreman level).
  • Experience running a budget and resources for a complex department.
  • Previous experience managing Construction and Development projects with positive results.
  • Minimum of 20 years’ management and supervisory experience, leading a large group of diverse employees, both staff, hourly-paid and contractors.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Construction, Mine Planning, and Engineering experience.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Advanced computer literacy skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), MS Project and SAP.
  • Advanced information monitoring and management skills.
  • Advanced planning, organizing and prioritizing skills.
  • Conflict management and influencing skills.
Working Conditions
  • Based at the Midnite Mine in Wellpinit, WA.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to be in the field and sit at a desk for periods, climb stairs, walk and stand.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the office work environment is minimal. Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces etc.
  • Protective equipment (PPE): Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, safety glasses or goggles, high visible clothing, safety harness, ear plugs and dust mask according to the work environment.
