Dimensions

Significant contribution to the Hoyle Pond Technical services and Operations teams  with the goal of adhering to and progressing current production geology activities. Reports directly to the Senior Underground Geologist – Hoyle Pond. Directly Supervises production geologists.

Purpose

Supervise, mentor and manage the production geology team at Hoyle pond. Manage the gathering, interpretation and compilation of all geological information for the underground mine to end safe, efficient and cost effective production is sustained. Work closely with the Short-Term planning to for longhole and development design.

Essential Duties

  • Manage the gathering, interpretation and compilation of all geological information for the underground mine so that safe, efficient, and cost-effective production is attained.
  • Ensure that production targets in area of responsibility meet company goals.
  • Supervise and aid in the development of a production geology team providing geological support to the underground operation.
  • Assist in the identification and execution of infill diamond drilling programs.
  • Perform inspections, job and task observations to ensure compliance to safety standards.
  • Manage grade control activities to maximize the profitability and sustainability of the operation.
  • Supervise grade control activities; including the sampling and monitoring of mining areas, assay validation, data entry, grade estimation, presentation of results and support to the Senior Underground Geologist.  
  • Complete data entry and management tasks.
  • Provide support for the production and engineering groups.
  • Provide geological modeling and production reconciliation initiatives.
  • Seek continual improvement of existing processes particularly with respect to grade control, ore accounting and material movement. 
  • Provide geological input for proposed new mining blocks and development.
  • Provide monthly grade calculations and forecasts for both reporting and planning purposes.
  • Attend production and planning meetings.
  • Continual improvement of existing processes in both grade and ground control.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance to develop comprehensive long-term and short-term plans (mining and reserve replacement)  
  • Ability to critic geologic models and present key findings.
  • Ability to critic resource estimation models and present key findings.
  • Ability to update data and validate data used in resource/reserve estimations.

Training & Experience

  • B.Sc. in Geology or equivalent
  • Registration as a Professional Geoscientist or eligibility for such registration is an asset.
  • 5 – 8 years of which 5 years should be in the underground mining environment.
  • Has shown responsibility for reviewing completed work, providing direction, assigning and managing tasks, managing progress, assessing performance, and providing opportunities for training and development.

Working Conditions

This is a site based position in Timmins Ontario supporting an underground operation

The work schedule is 4 days on 3 days off
