Purpose

Under Supervision of the Site Services Supervisor, the position is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and new work inside/outside of buildings and offices involving finish carpentry, metal and wood, drywall, locks and hardware, and all other carpentry duties as assigned. 

Essential Duties

  • Select colors and instruct others in painting, staining and varnishing techniques
  • Construct, install and finish all types of cabinets and appurtenant substructures.
  • Mill and install molding and other wood articles.
  • Install hardware on cabinets, including handles, hinges, locks, catches and stops.
  • Repair cabinets and all appurtenant equipment. 
  • Read blueprints, prepare simple sketches, prepare material list, and lay out the work at the job site.
  • Operate all types of woodworking machinery and maintain it in good order.
  • Provide assistance to co-workers when needed.
  • Install various wall and ceiling coverings such as sheetrock and ceiling tiles, and floor coverings such as vinyl tile, carpeting and sheet goods.
  • Alter, repair or construct articles and structures of wood such as partitions, walls, counters, doors, floors, roofs, window frames, and cabinets, working from plans, oral instructions, sketches and/or buildings.
  • Handle emergency maintenance and repair works
  • Ability to operate and manage power tools such as grinders, drill machines, table saws and cutoff saws.
  • Operate lathes, joiners, band saws and other wood working machinery. 
  • Operate maintenance equipment safely.
  • Ability to plan ahead to eliminate reactive work.
  • Prepare Documentation prior to work start such JHA, Hot work permit, Slam etc. 
  • Order materials, supplies and equipment needed for jobs. 
  • Maintain required records and make reports. 
  • Participate in workshops, training, and other activities to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Properly use, maintain, care for tools, equipment, vehicle(s), and work areas.
  • Construct and repair furniture’s
  • Manage several tasks simultaneously while seamlessly corresponding with peers and supervisor.

Training & Experience

Principles, procedures, skills, tools and materials used in specialized trade areas.
High school Diploma or equivalent
Uses and purposes of general maintenance tools and equipment. 
Applicable codes, rules and regulations pertaining to trade areas.
Any combination of experience of training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
•    Experience: Three (3) years of maintenance or journeyman level experience with a specialized trade area.
•    Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance, supplemented by additional training in a specialized trade such as carpentry, painting, locksmithing, electronics, or maintenance or related field.
•    Good planning and execution skills
•    Basic computer skills ( Excel, Words etc.)
Perform skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned. 
Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and equipment.
Read and interpret maps, diagrams and blueprints.
Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment. 
Follow oral and written directions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain friendly, cooperative and effective working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work. 
Exercise safe driving practices and maintain a safe driving record.
Ability to operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and equipment.
