About this role

The Electrical Lead Engineer oversees all aspects of Engineering under the Investment System Stage 3-4 and provides engineering and project management services in support of the development of the Yanacocha WTP, including management of contractors, consultants, and associated project staff. The role reports to the EPCM Manager and provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineering. 
This position plans, conducts, and leads projects in the areas of engineering management, value-improving practices, alternatives evaluation, design and engineering, procurement and contracts, and cost/schedule. The incumbent is responsible for the leadership of Electrical Engineering, including management of consultants and SME in Instrumentation/Controls engineering. Leads the Electrical team to complete work within time and cost parameters and fit for purpose. Leads Electrical execution reviews and presents results to Newmont Investment Council. Develops and maintains Project Engineering and Project Management agreed standards, guidance, and procedures approved for the Project related to Electrical.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:


Engineering 

  • Manage the technical Electrical scope part of the EPCM.
  • Responsible for engineering Electrical scope under the EPCM, ensuring the delivery of the technical scope.
  • Ensure alignment to project standards, processes, systems and procedures to meet the Electrical technical scope.
  • Responsible for Electrical input in the application of value improvement practices (VIP’s) assigned to the project, including HAZOPS and Risk Management.
  • Lead Electrical engineering progress, change management, and technical input into Procurement, and SOW to contracts.
  • Ensure the Electrical input into gate deliverables: Execution Plan, Gate Report, Capex/Opex, Engineering Plan, schedule and budget.

 

Management 

  • Lead the implementation of Newmont’s safety, health and environmental standards as part of the project design criteria (Electrical) and directs mitigation strategies to support a work environment that is protective of human health and the environment.
  • Manage the Owner’s Electrical engineering team under the EPCM. 
  • Responsible for the Electrical scope delivery by the EPCM’s Electrical Lead.
  • Drive and align the project business and project objectives to Electrical technical scope.
  • Develop engineering options incorporating cross-functional elements.
  • Work closely with all owners engineering leads, owner’s Technical Services group, owner’s commercial and project controls group, including senior management (EPCM Manager, Commissioning Manager, Business Readiness Manager).
  • Ensure completion of all stage deliverables, technical peer reviews, and Gate Documentation.
  • Understand and lead the risk management and mitigation mindset.
  • Review, evaluate, approve, and manage contracts for work to be performed by Electrical consultants and contractors outside the EPCM.
  • Manage Electrical engineering cost, budgets, progress and performance, and change management.

 

Execution

  • Direct the planning of Electrical engineering and its interface with procurement, contracts, project controls (cost, scheduling, forecast, change) by coordinating cross-functional integration with the EPCM, Owner’s Team, and outside consulting resources.
  • Be responsible for development of technical proposals and cost estimates for equipment, materials and personnel; schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
  • Review, evaluate and approve contracts for work to be performed by consultants and contractors; monitor budgets, approve plans, design and resolve problems as they arise.
  • Responsible for quality of Electrical engineering and compliance with project standards and design criteria. Responsible that designs are effective through the entire process; approve changes to designs or schedules as necessary.
  • Provide technical direction in the resolution of problems associated with the design, engineering and construction of the project.

 

Subject Matter Expert

  • Provide project Subject Matter Expertise and knowledge in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering.
  • Apply best practices within SME area.
  • Provides SME peer reviews.
  • Manage and coordinate SMEs external to Newmont as required to provide effective support.

Education

  • Bachelor´s degree in Electrical Engineering.

 

Experience

  • 20 years experience in project and engineering management including brownfield international projects. 
  • A minimum of 20 years’ experience as SME in Complex Electrical Systems is required.
  • Strong and proven knowledge on project execution, solid mine & process operational. 

 

Skills

  • Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization (interacting with diverse functional and cultural backgrounds).
  • Strong planning, prioritizing, and coordination skills.

Working Conditions and Location

 

Where you will be located!


Position is located at the EPCM Office in Santiago de Chile, South America.

The role requires 50% of traveling on a scheduled basis and as required by the EPCM Manager. Destination includes Peru, Lima, and Cajamarca; USA (Denver, and Houston) Vadodar, Gujarat, India and Toronto, Canada.
