Newmont Australian Operations are located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and New South Waltes with roles in operations, projects, and exploration.  Regional Support is provided from our offices in Subiaco and Melbourne.

About this role

 

As the Project Director for Cadia Block Caves, you'll be a key leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the block cave mining project within the Cadia Valley Operations. Your role will encompass strategic planning, operational management, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring the project's successful execution from start to finish. This includes directing the project team, managing budgets and timelines, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, addressing technical challenges, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of safety and excellence. Your leadership will be critical in driving operational efficiency, optimizing ore recovery, and achieving production targets while upholding environmental and social responsibility standards. Overall, as the Project Director, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Cadia Block Caves project's success and its contribution to the overall goals of the company.

 

Global Projects is responsible for Newmont’s global portfolio of studies and projects which includes major studies, major and mega projects, complex sustaining capital works, renewables development, joint venture projects and closure execution.

Your role will consist of

Growth Strategy & Governance

 

  • Design project delivery strategies and approaches based on the internal and external context of the project, its objectives, stakeholders, governance, market dynamics.
  • Maximize value, manage cost and enhance schedule performance.
  • Continually evaluate exposure to risk, both opportunities and threats, to maximize positive impacts and mitigate negative impacts on the project and its outcomes.
  • Build governance and assurance processes to meet and exceed regulatory requirements.

Operations Excellence

 

  • Act with integrity, care, and trustworthiness to steward the safe delivery of the project(s). 
  • Integrate all aspects of the project including HSE, scope, schedule cost, quality, contracts and procurement, risk, stakeholder and change management, controls and reporting, commissioning.
  • Establish systems and structure to meet regulatory, Newmont, Joint Venture, S&ER, Government, First Nations and other stakeholder requirements for project success.
  • Evaluate and navigate project complexity and build adaptability and resiliency into the project development approach to accommodate change, recover from setbacks and advance the work of the project.
  • Continually evaluate exposure to risk, both opportunities and threats, to maximize positive impacts and mitigate negative impacts on the project and its outcomes.

Safety & Sustainability

 

  • Embed a strong HSE culture focused on safety in design, fatality prevention, and the creation of a safe and equitable workplace.

People

 

  • Establish and develop a high performing project teams.
  • Build and maintain the requisite skills, capabilities, systems and processes required to successfully ramp up and execute the project and successfully transition to operations.

Commercial

 

  • Budgets, cost control, forecasting and reporting.

Technical Skills

 

  • Advanced proficiency in delivering large-scale projects in mining, oil, and gas, or other capital-intensive industries.
  • Proficiency with different commercial models and project delivery models.
  • Experience with renewable energy project development is advantageous.

Knowledge

 

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, or other relevant disciplines.

Other Requirements

 

Significant domestic travel, and international travel as required to sites that are sometimes in remote and complex operating environments.
