Purpose

The primary role of the Technical Trainer 1, is to provide training to Newmont Staff and 
Business Partners in Standard Operation and Task Procedures as per Newmont standards. 
This includes executing Equipment-Simulator, In-Class, and On-the-Job Training Courses. 
The role also involves assisting in the development, implementation, and operation of integrated skills, occupational health, safety, and training management.

Essential Duties

Health & Safety

  • Ensure physical fitness for work and conduct daily workplace inspections.
  • Complete safety training and certification as required.
  • Report safety incidents and support investigations.
  • Conduct safety, equipment, and department-specific training.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety and environmental rules and regulations.

Strategy and Procedure Development

  • Assist in planning and designing training policies, processes, programs, and activities.
  • Assist with develop training curriculum and support materials.
  • Implement safe and efficient procedures for routine tasks.
  • Maintain and manage Training Records and Reports in LMS.

Training duties:

  • Assist in managing external consultants and supervising contracted work.
  • Assist with identifying the training needs for the workforce.
  • Develop HSLP and Environmental Training Packages.
  • Facilitate HSLP, ESR and Equipment training courses, ensuring that all participants are engaged and learning effectively.
  • Assist with managing and coordinating vendor-supplied training programs, including planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Facilitate HSLP Training including specific area base safety inductions and trainings courses, ensuring all employees are aware of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Train, coach, and guide the workforce to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Assist with development and implementation of initial and recurrent training programs.
  • Assist with planning and managing training weekly schedules, to ensure all training sessions are scheduled and communicated effectively.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping of all training and assessment activities.

Responsibilities:
❖ Document Control
Assist with document controlling tasks, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and accessible.
❖ Training Record Maintenance
Maintain a robust training recording/tracking system to monitor employee progress and training completion.
❖ Contractor Management Support
Provide assistance with contractor management, ensuring all contractors are managed effectively and efficiently.
❖ Audit Preparation
Support document management collection for audits, ensuring all necessary documents are prepared and organized.
❖ Document Storage
Oversee the document storage facility, ensuring all documents are stored securely and can be accessed easily.

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Higher Education (Bachelor Degree) or the combination of Secondary Education
  • (HAVO/VWO/NATIN/ AMTO) and Prior Learning Assessment with a minimum 10 years of work experience in related field, Pedagogical/ workplace training assessment IV 
  • certification (LOBO/ IOL/ Vanguard Pedagogical-Didactical Certification) are a pre
  • Preferable OSHA- Train the Trainer Certification
  • Training background preferred
  • Government driver’s license BE
  • First Aid Certificate

Knowledge:
Strong Presentation-, and Motivational skills, with the ability to effectively 
communicate technical, sensitive information.
Strong Training Development skills (Session Plans, PowerPoint Presentations and Assessment Development).
Strong time management -, communication -, writing – and problem solving skills.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT, OUTLOOK)
Strong LMS (Learning Management System) skills 
Advance understanding of how behavior of equipment operations impacts health and reliability of miningequipment’s.
Excellent understanding of open pit gold mining operations.
Ability to handle a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties.
Ability to work under limited supervision.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working an open pit gold mining operation and training.
  • Cultural awareness, respectful towards others and an understanding of different 
  • learning styles and principles as it relates to adult learning.
  • Experience with program implementation and change management.
  • Technical/Vocational training management and implementation experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills with a supportive and positive approach to the training and development of each employee and business partner. Ability to interact effectively with employees at various levels in the organization.

Proficient in using Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and 
Excel.

  • Communication Skills

Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication. Excellent language 
skills in Sranang Tongo, Dutch, and English are required. Strong listening skills are essential.

  • Organizational Skills

Sound planning, organizing, prioritizing, and management skills.

  • Analytical Skills

Sound analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex issues.

  • Monitoring Skills

Sound information monitoring skills to keep track of information and updates.

  • Documentation Skills

Ability to read and understand documentation.

  • Relationship Management

Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with peers and supervisors.
 

Working Conditions

  • The position is located on the Merian mine site in Suriname, working in the mine conducting on the job training performing simulator training in a designated area.
  • The administrative part of the work will be performed in a shared office.
  • Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment.
  • Accommodation is in a man camp/village environment near the workplace.
  • Position may require traveling to and/or assisting of other domestic sites
