The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose

The Project Draftperson serves as a crucial member of the project team, responsible for translating design concepts and specifications into detailed technical drawings and plans. With a keen eye for accuracy and precision, the Draftperson plays a pivotal role in ensuring that project requirements are effectively communicated and executed. By utilizing specialized software and adhering to industry standards, the Draftperson produces drawings that serve as essential guides for construction, fabrication, and installation activities. Their meticulous attention to detail and ability to collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders contribute significantly to the successful execution of projects, ultimately facilitating the achievement of project goals and objectives.

Essential Duties

1. Drafting Support: Produce detailed drawings, plans, and schematics using computer-aided design (CAD) software for various disciplines within capital projects, including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering. 
2. Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other project team members to ensure that drawings accurately reflect project requirements and specifications across multiple disciplines. 
3. Quality Assurance: Review and verify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and codes. Address any discrepancies or issues identified during the review process and revise drawings as necessary. 
4. Field Measurements and Verifications: Conduct field measurements and verifications to ensure that as-built conditions align with the drawings and specifications. Document any deviations or discrepancies encountered and collaborate with the project team to resolve them effectively. 
5. Document Control: Maintain organized and up-to-date project documentation, including drawings, revisions, and related records. Ensure that all drawings are properly labeled, stored, and archived in accordance with project requirements. 
6. Coordination with External Stakeholders: Interface with external stakeholders, such as contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies, to exchange drawing information, resolve design issues, and coordinate project activities as needed. 
7. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in drafting methodologies, standards, and software tools. Implement best practices and lessons learned from previous projects to enhance drafting efficiency and effectiveness. 

Training & Experience

Knowledge: 

  • Associate degree or certificate in drafting, engineering technology, or related field; bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in drafting within the capital projects or engineering industry, with exposure to multiple disciplines. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or MicroStation, with the ability to create detailed drawings and plans. 
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, practices, and techniques applicable to civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering disciplines. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders. 
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in drafting work, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines. 
  • Willingness to work in challenging environment. 
  • Friendly, courteous and professional manner when dealing with people both over the telephone and in person.  
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Dutch and/or Sranan Tongo is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Able to work at the Merian Site, a remote area 
  • Able to live for 14 days in a Camp environment 
  • Able to deal with different cultures
