The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose

The Project Buyer, Goods and Services, is responsible for sourcing and procuring goods and services necessary for project execution while ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgetary constraints. Their primary objective is to develop and implement procurement strategies that optimize supplier relationships, negotiate favourable terms and pricing, and ensure the timely delivery of goods and services to support project milestones. The Project Buyer will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, identify suitable suppliers, and manage the procurement process from sourcing to delivery. Additionally, they will monitor supplier performance, resolve any issues that may arise during procurement, and maintain accurate records of procurement activities. Overall, the Project Buyer plays a crucial role in facilitating project success by effectively managing the procurement of goods and services essential for project operations.

Essential Duties

1. Sourcing and Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for the provision of goods and services required for project activities. Develop and implement procurement strategies to optimize costs, quality, and delivery times while adhering to project schedules and specifications
2. Bid Management: Coordinate the preparation, issuance, and evaluation of requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for quotations (RFQs), and tender documents. Analyze supplier proposals, negotiate terms and conditions, and select the most suitable suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery considerations.
3. Quality Assurance: Negotiate and finalize contracts with selected suppliers, ensuring that all terms and conditions are favorable to the company and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with legal and contract management teams to review and approve contract documents.
4. Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, serving as the primary point of contact for supplier communications and issue resolution. Monitor supplier performance, address any issues or concerns, and identify opportunities for performance improvement or cost savings.
5. Purchase Order Management: Generate and manage purchase orders for the procurement of goods and services, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and procedures. Track order status, expedite deliveries as necessary, and resolve any discrepancies or issues with suppliers.
6. Inventory and Warehouse Management: Collaborate with warehouse and inventory management teams to coordinate the receipt, storage, and distribution of procured goods. Monitor inventory levels, identify surplus or obsolete items, and implement measures to optimize inventory turnover and minimize carrying costs.
7. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to procurement activities. Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks, including supply chain disruptions, price fluctuations, and supplier reliability issues.

Training & Experience

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, with a focus on sourcing and procuring goods and services.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract negotiation and supplier management.
  • Proficiency in procurement processes, including bid management, contract administration, and purchase order management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices, supply chain operations, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with procurement software systems.
  • Willingness to work in challenging environment.
  • Friendly, courteous and professional manner when dealing with people both over the telephone and in person.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Dutch and/or Sranan Tongo is a plus

Working Conditions

  • Able to work at the Merian Site, a remote area
  • Able to live for 14 days in a Camp environment
  • Able to deal with different cultures
