Senior Process Control Engineer
DIMENSIONS - Number and Titles of Persons/Areas Supervised:
Directly supervise process control engineers and specialists.


The Process Control Training Specialist assists the Senior Process Control Engineer in managing and coordinating a team of process control specialists to ensure efficient day to day operation of plant process and equipment.  This position also applies technical expertise to resolve control system faults, designs, integrates and maintains networks and communications infrastructures and supports the professional development of National control engineers through on-the-job training mentoring, coaching and preparation of training documents.

Essential Duties

1. Promote compliance with Newmont Suriname and Newmont global HSLP policies and procedures and actively demonstrates company values.
2. Log condition and status of control system components and supervises implementation of improvement projects.
3. Support control team activities and coordinates with maintenance and operations personnel to expediently resolve plant control problems to stabilize process upsets.
4. Ensure the continuous, trouble-free operation of PCS networks.  Design and maintain Fibre Optic and CAT6 Ethernet cabling installations.
5. Perform programming, configuration and maintenance of automation systems hardware and software.
6. Co-ordinate with IT specialists to develop and facilitate integration of PCS data with management information Systems. Ensuring secure and robust operation of both systems.
7. Maintain PCS system drawings and documentation to ensure accuracy at all times.  Produce procedures and documentation for effective PCS maintenance.
8. Train and develop national engineers and specialists in Automation systems hardware and software.
9. Develop plans for de-bottlenecking communication systems to ensure capacity meets user demand.
10. Support the implementation of Change Management procedures and ensure protocols are consistently applied. 
11. Engage, train and motivate process control engineers by implementing a robust training and diverse development program. 
12. Develop SOP’s and STP’s to achieve safe and consistent system availability.
13. Maintain an awareness of developing technology and enthusiasm for the discipline by introducing trials of new equipment, processes and procedures to support a culture of continuous improvement.
14. Support Power Plant control systems as required.

The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Training & Experience

• The processing facilities at Merian include crushing, grinding, a gravity recovery circuit, pre-leach thickening, a leach-CIL circuit, a carbon stripping, elution and carbon regeneration circuit, a gold recovery circuit, a cyanide CCD reduction thickener, cyanide destruction facility, tailings and reclaim water pipelines and a water effluent treatment plant. The throughput of the processing facilities will vary from 12 Mtpy to 8 Mtpy.
• A minimum of trade level qualifications in the electrical or instrumentation trade combined with a recognized certificate or diploma in industrial automation and/or communication systems.
• Two years’ working in gold processing facilities similar to the Merian flowsheet and at least 7 years’ experience implementing and maintaining automation systems in continuous mineral processes.
• Hands on experience configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting industrial automation systems, PLC programming and development of HMI’s.
• Installation and commissioning of Ethernet systems utilizing CAT6 and Fibre Optic cabling infrastructures.
• Experience supporting operations and maintenance teams to develop and improve control strategies.
• Experienced working in a diverse, multi-cultural environment, preferably in a developing country.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with multiple computer systems.
• Demonstrated training, coaching, mentoring and interpersonal skills, preferably supported by formal qualifications in vocational education.

Working Conditions

• Must be capable of and willing to work for extended periods outdoors in a tropical climate.
• Wear personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, long sleeved shirts, or any other equipment to perform duties safely as required by the Health and Safety plan.
• Work 30x12 hour days in a remote mine-site camp location followed by 26 days off including travel and transport.

**Position will be moving to a 6x3 work schedule later 2018/early 2019
