Regional Investment and Value Management Office Manager and IEM Advisor

Dimensions

Interaction with regional management, project directors, site business managers, Corporate and Regional Value Assurance  and other functional directors is required.  Role is expected to proactively influence and collaborate with personnel throughout the organisation to ensure regional leadership has the necessary information of sufficient quality to make informed investment decisions, while managing the development and improvement of key project analysis and value assessment tools and practices.  

Purpose
  • Manage the project economic evaluation process on behalf of Investment Managers for major and mega projects in the South American region by evaluating investment alternatives within Newmont’s capital projects portfolio and determine which alternatives have the best economic and strategic fit.  
  • Provide Regional leadership and governance for Newmont’s investment evaluation standards and tools. 
  • Partner with Investment Managers and Regional Leadership by analyzing the impact that investment alternatives will have on business plans and strategic plans.  Act as a subject matter expert for the planning and investment evaluation processes. 
  • Manage the administration of the Regional Investment office and ongoing support.  Stewards of the regional process and provides training to the regional and site investment stakeholders. Engages with the necessary stakeholders to improve South America’s approach to capital investment decisions. 
In this Role you will

Stewardship of Investment Systems:

Investment Center Process.  Serves as a facilitator for Investment teams through the process of proposing Investments to the Regional Investment Council.

Investment System Advisor.  Provides guidance to Investment Managers and Contract Managers to ensure compliance with the Investment Process and documentation.

Investment Center Dashboard Performance.  Track and monitors investment opportunities and provides analytics on site and regional investment planning and execution performance.

Investment Modeling:

Investment Analysis Process.

Investment Evaluation Tool Management.  Leads the effort of collaborating with technical and business functions to ensure that sources used in economic and portfolio models are based on appropriate assumptions that conform to current Planning guidance.  

Communication of Investment Alternatives.  Develops clear and concise messaging in conjunction with the investment management. Ensures project teams understand the requirements for financial modelling for each stage of the Investment System through training .

Investment Model QA/QC.  Ensure adequate internal controls are in place for project analysis.

Manage Standards.  Assists in ensuring Investment Value and Management standards are adhered to and processes perform optimally within the region.

Your Training & Experience Checklist
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics or Mining related technical degree. MBA or Masters in Mineral Economics preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of combined relevant experience in mining and financial work. At least 3 years in the mining industry. Previous management experience preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively evaluate and prioritize tasks
  • Self-motivated, dynamic, diplomatic and results oriented
  • Experience in project management, valuation, risk analysis and simulations
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including ability to review complex financial models, where at times, limited details are available
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting, tax, capital budgeting and portfolio analysis, including development of portfolio management tools
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lead through influence, impact across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Spanish, Dutch and Sranan Tongo skills are desired but not required.
Working Conditions
  • The position is located in the regional office in Miami, Florida.  The role may requires international and domestic travel to the Peru, Suriname, Argentina, Denver and other South American locations
  • The role may require significant work outside of normal office hours to meet major project timeframes.
