Dimensions

This position reports to GMRI and the Site Business Improvement resources reports to this position (dotted line).

Purpose

Manage and direct the Business Improvement function for the South America Region, with the corresponding interactions of continuous improvement programs (e.g. Full Potential) and specific improvement programs based on corporate mandates of value creation (e.g. AISC Challenge) across all areas of the business.

This involves establishing a collaborative working relationship with the Regional Leadership Team, Regional Operations Support Team, General Managers, Functional Managers and Corporate Technical Services to provide guidance, consultation, counselling and advice to line managers in support of the delivery of policies and programs, constant monitoring and development of the regional tracking tools.

This position will have a high level of exposure given its proximity to the regional and corporate executives of the company.

Essential Duties

  • Operational Excellence
    • Lead the continuous improvement programs for the region, including Full Potential, and specific business improvements with a focus on delivering productivity improvements and cost reductions, working from the regional office.
    • Define improvement strategies that maximize the culture of continuous improvement.
    • Maintain and provide access to the entire suite of improvement processes and tools to ensure currency and relevance to all site personnel.
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Assist Department Managers in the development and rollout of Employee engagement programs to realize regional Full Potential targets.
    • Align on cascading KPI’s with individual performance management in accordance with regional Business Plan.
    • Provide input to Business Plan (BP) targets based on realization of the Full Potential improvement plan.
    • Implement Change Management as it relates to improvement projects, and assess suitability for implementation of improvement initiatives from other regions, external sources or needs outside of regular Full Potential programs
    • Liaise with Newmont’s global Business Improvement community to share best practices and align programs.
    • Support and manage consultant relationship related with Full Potential initiatives
  • Reporting
    • Review and report back to stakeholders on projects, processes and improvement initiatives across site.
    • Provide monthly and quarterly updates on progress of Business Improvement activities to project Managers, Owners and Leads.
    • Design and implement programs and training to develop Continuous Improvement competencies with Newmont’s professionals.
    • Maintain tracking of key KPIs to ensure embedment of improvement initiatives and sustainability across the operating and support functions.
    • Assess opportunities for ongoing improvement in tracking systems such as use of Tableau reporting
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regards to Newmont’s safety, environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Provide Visible Safety Leadership that supports the solidification of Newmont’s safety culture

Training & Experience

  • Extensive mining industry background, with a technical tertiary degree level qualification and preferred postgraduate studies in related field.
  • Good understanding of mine economics.
  • Training in continuous improvement techniques and tools, such as LEAN Six Sigma, Newmont’s Full Potential, etc.
  • Broad mining industry expertise and experience on Management level.
  • Minimum of 10 years mining professional experience in technical/financial areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and analyze data
  • Advanced computer literacy
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Effective people management, relationship building, problem solving, coaching and developing skills.
  • English and Spanish proficiency is desirable

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in SA Regional Office.
  • Requires the ability to hear, see, read and understand all warning signals and comply with all safety standards.
  • Flexible hours to accommodate global and regional meeting times.

May be required travel domestic and international in the performance of duties
