About this role

What will you be responsible for?

Senior Engineering Hydrogeologist– is in charge for coordinating, planning, designing and construction of dewatering and fresh water supply wells, align with water level monitoring wells. The professional also identifies and develops mine water management strategies according to production plans, and supports groundwater exploration and modelling works on the various well fields (pit and external fields).
The candidate is also responsible for the strategy and execution of groundwater static levels monitoring in the mine area and the duties include the completion of dewatering and fresh water wells (when required) and the exploration and completion of groundwater level monitoring points in the aquifer. Ensure the feasibility and safety of both short and long term pit mining and operations of well-fields as the production needs.
 

In this role you will

 

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

 

  • Coordinate and support of numerical and conceptual modelling efforts in the pit and external well-fields.
  • Periodic review and validation of consultants and contractors cost estimates.
  • Monitor periodic pit water levels (piezometric wells), data collection and compilation.
  • Act as technical advice for pit dewatering wells operation and, if requested, freshwater wells operation.
  • Preparation of detailed technical scopes of work and concept catalogues (both in English and Spanish) for the Projects area, including dewatering and production wells drilling and completion as well as water exploration drilling and testing projects.
  • Provide technical support to Short Term Planning, Drill and Blast and Mine Ops teams regarding groundwater management in mine works.
  • Responsible for planning, scoping and execution of piezometric and water exploration drilling and testing campaigns.
  • Provide technical control and support of VWP FGR on fully grouted installations, piezometric completion of boreholes.
  • Support planning, design and execution of wall depressurization programs, if / when required.
  • Support the Site Water Team with regards to groundwater extraction from the pit and external well-fields, water levels monitoring and mine-area groundwater management strategies in general.
  • Assess the impact of local (mine scale) hydrogeologic conditions in mining operations and provide alternatives and detailed technical advice for mine water management.
  • Coordinate and lead modelling and water management consultants and drilling contractors (and contractors in general), including project logistics, mobilization, execution and drill site preparation.
  • For external freshwater wells, coordinate, plan and lead wells construction projects, including permitting, technical scoping, civil and electrical works and wells construction technical control.
  • Actively communicate with corporate Tech Services team regarding mine water management and status reports of groundwater extraction and monitoring systems, both external and in-pit.

Functional and Technical skills 

  • Experience on fresh water and dewatering wells planning, drilling, supervision, construction, and design.
  • Experience and knowledge on surface pumps installation and operation.
  • Validated experience on mining hydrogeology, hydraulic testing and hydrogeologic borehole logging.
  • Basic knowledge of geophysical logging interpretation focused on hydrogeologic features and wells design.
  • Experience with water level monitoring devices and transducers installation and operation.
  • Experience on technical scoping and concept catalogues elaboration for projects.
  • Electrical submersible pumping systems installation and operation experience.
  • Knowledge of the Sense metrics telemetry platform and interface operation.
  • Strong commitment with safe projects' execution as per Newmont standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly workplace.
  • Knowledge of technical English and Spanish (at technical reporting level).
  • Efficient time management.
  • Knowledge and experience on project management, focused on wells planning, drilling, completion and testing.
  • Knowledge of MineSight, MS Office suit, including Power Point, Word, Excel and Access at Intermediate level.
  • Ability to set resources planning capabilities, as well as organizing and establishing milestones for the team.
  • Define project stages and activities monitoring capabilities to stay in sync with deadlines.
  • Provide Long and Short-Term Planning including hydrogeologic aspects and mine dewatering requirements, when applicable. 

 

Experience

  • At least 10 years of hydrogeology and mine water management experience.
  • Experience with VWP installations on fully grouted installations on continuous FGR.
  • Experience on wells, pilot holes hydraulic and pump testing (pumping tests).
  • Ability to manage drilling contractors and hydrogeological consultants.
  • Previous experience as mine water management consultant.

 

Professional education

  • Geologic Engineering or Geology degree.
  • Solid knowledge on mine water management, as well as with geological and hydrogeologic aspects of aquifers and water wells in general.

Working Conditions and Location

Where you will be located!

Peñasquito Mine-México

The job is 100% on site with a work role is 5x2/4x3. The person must have availability to travel to Zacatecas, the mine is in a remote location located in a warm, semi-desert climate. Accommodation is in a camp with all facilities.
