Senior Manager, Americas Operational Accounting

About this role


You will analyze operational accounting matters for the sites across the North and South America regions, including inventory accounting, reclamation and remediation accounting and capital spend classification. You will maintain adequate analysis and QA/QC of operational accounting to avoid errors and incorrect accounting treatment. You will coordinate with the Manager, Americas GL Accounting, Assistant Controllers and Americas Regional Controller to develop and implement accounting and reporting initiatives. You will ensure technical accounting analysis of operational matters for all sites.

In this role you will


  • Lead efforts to ensure that reclamation calculations and modeling are accurate and prepared in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS (as applicable).
  • Coordinate the reclamation accounting activities for NA and SA sites within the site, regional and corporate closure teams, as well as within the corporate operations accounting team. Execute associated critical SOX 404 internal controls over this process.
  • Coordinate the review and evaluation of inventory modeling, including evaluation of Net Realizable Value calculations for NA sites.
  • Champion Newmont's accounting requirements and procedures by partnering with corporate planning and the regional and site planning teams to ensure budgets and forecasts are prepared appropriately and consistently.
  • Coordinate alongside the Assistant Regional Controllers so that the QA/QC accounting review process of the annual business plan is completed for each regional site.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Reporting teams at sites to analyze the operating results in our organization's management reports and SEC filings.
  • Coordinate and assist with the effort to build and maintain accounting guidelines and job aids for key operational accounting areas.
  • Liaise with the Director, Operations Accounting and Regional Finance teams to update operations accounting procedures.
  • Deliver results to conform with the Leadership Pipeline Manager of others level for all six Leadership Pipeline categories: Business Results, Management and Planning Results, Leadership Results, Customer and Relationship Results.
  • Perform special projects as required, such as: IFRS conversions, acquisitions/divestitures, accounting systems upgrades and audit related activities.

Your training, skills & experience checklist


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum of 10 years of combined auditing and accounting or financial reporting experience.
  • Strong systems focus and significant experience with SAP and BPC.
  • CPA and advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, SEC rules & regulations and internal control system design.
  • Knowledge of mine accounting (site/region experience preferred).
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills.
  • Ability to work as a contributing member in a team environment.
  • High level of motivation, requiring minimal direction/supervision, and tact necessary.
Working conditions & location


  • The position will sit in the Greenwood Village, CO Corporate Office.
