  • The Senior Consulting Geostatistician will act as an expert for underground ore control, providing high level consulting and ensuring proper implementation of underground ore control practices to maximize the value from Newmont operations. This high level consulting includes implementation of best practices in sampling, parameter analysis and selection for short-term models and methodologies for improving short-term modeling practices.
  • Assist in the mentoring and development of a global pool of Newmont underground ore control practitioners.
  • Provide consulting in the area of geostatistics and resource modeling.
  • Implement uncertainty assessment tools (conditional simulation) and other state-of-the art practices into geostatistical consulting.
Essential Duties


  • Provide expert consulting to Newmont operations in all areas pertaining to underground ore control, from sampling to reconciliation.
  • Develop and maintain underground ore control training programs to ensure best practices
  • Develop underground Ore Control Standards and Guidelines and support site implementation.
  • Provide continuous improvement through analysis and implementation of advanced underground ore control techniques.
  • Perform global reconciliation rollup and analysis for Technical Services management.
  • Support correct geostatistical estimation at specific sites through monitoring, guidance, knowledge of key personnel, and regular site interaction.
  • Perform work as a member of a cross functional team and communicate effectively about technical issues.
  • Search for cost saving opportunities where best practice implementation can impact higher grades, minimize misclassification, and optimize material routing to maximize additional revenue opportunities. Work with stakeholders to implement identified opportunities.
  • Provide support in development and retention of underground ore control practitioners through mentoring and coaching. Identify and communicate resource modeling risk and uncertainty.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders on implementation of uncertainty results to improve project and operational decision-making
Training & Experience



  • Degree in geology, mining engineering or geostatistics
  • MSc or PhD will credit years of experience.



  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in aspects of underground ore control such as sampling, mapping, geological modeling and geostatistics.
  • Extensive experience in operations and operational issues related to underground ore control and resource modeling
  • Detailed understanding of QA/QC methods applicable to sampling, geologic interpretation, and the entire resource modeling process.
  • Work experience in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world countries.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive experience with underground ore control and resource modeling software, including ability to develop software utilities and scripts to support modeling.
  • Ability to work with teams, peers and managers.
  • Strong technical writing, public presentation, and interpersonal skills
Working Conditions


  • The position is located in the Denver corporate office.
  • Position is required to travel extensively to, and assist, domestic and international sites.
  • Must be able to work effectively at different sites across different cultures within the Company
