Dimensions

Oversees all aspects of Engineering under the Investment System (from Stage 1 to Execution) and provides global engineering and project management services in support of  development projects, sustaining capital (regional level), operations, and mine/operations closure . Manages project execution (contractors, construction workers, engineers, and associated staff) on brown field and green field capital projects (<$1 billion) on an assigned basis. Requires 50% travel.

Purpose

Plans, conducts, and leads studies and projects in the areas of  risk management, value improving practices, alternatives evaluation, design and engineering, procurement and contracts, and cost/scheduling.  Responsible for the leadership of consultants and business teams to complete work within time and cost parameters and fit for purpose. Leads execution review teams and presents results to Newmont Investment Council.  Develops and maintains Project Engineering and Project Management agreed standards, guidance, and procedures under the Investment System . Defines and maintains project engineering and project management best practices. Provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in at least one major area relevant to Newmont’s core business and provides global engineering, project management and SME services in support of capital development projects across all stages under the Investment System, as well as operations and closure support.

Essential Duties

Project Engineering/Project Management Services
Supports studies and projects, M&A, operations, and regional project teams.
Development of standards and best practices to meet  global and regional requirements . Supports the development of project deliverables and of the Investment System
Supports the development, implementation of Document Management and Knowledge Management.
Leads Risk and Opportunity workshops and manages the Risk Register.
Leads Integrated Planning Sessions and manages outcome
Coordinates the application of value improvement practices (VIP’s).
Supports development of project engineers and engineering managers, and study and porject managers.
Supports the continuos improvement of the Project Management Guidebook, and the development of “Fit for Purpose” design guidelines in  supports  “fit for purpose” engineering.
Manages budgets, progress and performance, and change management
Manages and ensures completion of all requirements for Stage deliverables, technical and business reviews, and Documentation reauired for funds approval
Study Management (Pre-feasibility and Feasibility)
Establishes the study team, including organization, roles and resposibilities, and division of responsibilities.
Drives and coordinates creation of solid business cases based on the company business strategy.
Develops project options and business case scenarios in accordance with  Newmont’s Investment System
Works closely with functional leads from all areas of the company, including senior management, enforcing cross-functional participation
Project Management: (Regional Projects to Large capital projects)
Establishes the project team, including organization, roles and resposibilities, and division of responsibilities.
Monitors and reports safety and environment standards in accordance with Newmont standards.
Directs the execution planning, engineering, procurement, cost, scheduling and construction activities for the business.
Provides technical direction in the resolution of problems associated with the design, engineering and construction of the project.   
Provides technical assistance to operating personnel during start-up phase; including management of personnel.
Subject Matter Expert
Provides corporate Subject Matter Expertise and knowledge in Tails Storage Facilties/Civil/Underground Mining and Project Management
Supports projects and operations globally as an SME
Drives company-wide development of Best Practices within SME area
Manages and coordinates SMEs external to Newmont as required to provide effective support
Corporate and Functional Review
Leads execution of corporate and functional reviews: Project Execution Planning, Project Engineering, Project Management and SME
Supports Corporate Reviews; End of Execution Review and Post Investment Review
Ensures reviews are applied consistently across Newmont’s portfolio of projects
Educates, trains and mentors functional review teams in review procedures and Investment System processes
Facilitates interaction of the investment team, the SVP of Global Projects and the Investment System Council.

 

 

 

Training & Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Mining Engineering and minimum of 20 years project management and engineering management experience. A minimum of 15 years experience as an SME in civil/ug design.

 

Working Conditions

  • Position is located at the Palazzo Verde office with travel required to the regions and sites as necessary to support global projects, project development business objectives as well as operations and closure support.
  • The position requires effective leadership and performance management in a dynamic multitasking environment.
  • The position requires excellent oral and written communications skills
