The Manager -Process is responsible for process developments on green field and brown field projects in North America, South America, APAC and West Africa.  Provides metallurgical consulting at the Malozemoff Technical Facility, provides operations support and are subject matter experts to the larger global Newmont operations clients. 

Essential Duties

  • Establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with Newmont Metallurgical Services (NMS), Newmont Projects and Regional Operations personnel and seek collaboration in participating in and/or managing Stage Gate projects.  Adhere to Stage-Gate standard practices, procedures and protocols.  Manage the use of information developed in these projects and be proactive and decisive in re-directing work programs when new results indicate that more or less testing/work needs to be done.
  • Assist global metallurgical operations in evaluation and implementation of new and existing process technologies, water treatment methods and milling and heap leaching operations with a goal of achieving the lowest cost and highest benefit ratio.
  • Perform duties as Project Manager or Metallurgical Technical Services representative on Newmont Projects and activities, including:

-  NMC Due Diligence Efforts and Evaluations

-  Stage 1 Projects (PEM declaration)

-  Stage 2 Projects (NRM declaration)

-  Stage 3 Projects (Reserve declaration)

-  Stage 4 Projects (Final Project Approval for Construction)

-  Construction/Commissioning and Start-up activities (as required)

-  Operations effectiveness/Excellence Programs

  • Participate as a team member of the site driven Full Potential programs geared to extract maximum value through operations effectiveness and value creation projects.
  • Provide discipline specific operations support to ensure the sites are meeting or exceeding their business plans.
  • May be called upon to act as Stage-Gate manager for Stage 1-4 projects with defined deliverables including "team" selection/organization, managing cost and completing on schedule.
  • May be required to act as a Value Assurance team member in evaluating studies and projects to ensure that strategic investments are robust.
  • May be required to fill-in as substitute GM, Process Manager or Engineering Manager during critical periods as determined with your supervisor.
  • Implement Newmont and Industry best practices, procedures, safety standards and environmental standards into new project developments.
  • Promote safety as a prime driver at Newmont.
  • The Manager - Process will be working with the following Peer Group (this is intended for reference only and is a sampling of the Manager - Process peer group):  Regional Operations VP's, VP Technical Services, Engineering Manager, Manager NMS, Process Managers, Process Superintendent, Chief Metallurgist, Senior Metallurgical Consultant, Senior Operations Engineers, Consulting Geologist, Project Engineers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with project, metallurgical and engineering consultants that will benefit Newmont project development activities
  • Maintain communication with other companies, universities, government departments and non-government agencies related to metallurgy, which could benefit the company.
  • Organize, develop and manage matrix personnel within Newmont Technical Services, Projects, Operations, Environmental, HSLP, Legal, Tax, IT, G&A, and etc.
  • Collaborate with NMS and third party labs on the design and development of process metallurgical and innovation testing for new projects
  • Manage projects within the approved schedule and budget
  • Manage a team effort to achieve the goals
  • Keep in balance, during project management/development activities, the impact of technical decisions and how they impact the business from a capital and operating point of view.

Training & Experience

  • B.S. degree in Hydrometallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or related discipline.  Advanced degrees are considered a plus.
  • Experience should include a minimum of 15 years combined experience in operations, project development and/or project management in the Au, Cu or base metal extractive industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems through innovation and "outside the box' thinking are valued qualities.
  • Language skills, other than English, though not a requirement, will be looked at favorably.
