Purpose

Work in our North American Regional office in beautiful Northern Nevada.  The North America Land Department is responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and divestiture of all interests in real property.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate with Operations, Exploration, S&ER, Corporate Development, Tax, Legal, and other Newmont functions to determine the interests in real property the Company needs for exploration, development, mining, processing, reclamation and closure activities. This will include property needed for associated facilities, mitigation, exchanges and other strategic needs of the Company
  • Plan and execute negotiations with private and government entities to acquire interests in real property within guidelines established by Supervisor. Acquisitions generally range from standard to complex mineral lease agreements, direct purchases or disposal of real estate or mineral rights, and mining claim staking.
  • Organize and conduct complete title reviews of county and public land records to determine ownership of interests in real property to be acquired or disposed.
  • Assist Land teammates in conducting land-related activities, including the review of annual claim maintenance filings and mapping projects for all interests in real property in North America.
  • Prepare and process various land-related agreements, including leases, permits, rights-of-way, easements, options, purchase and sale agreements, and joint ventures with third parties.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure required monuments delimiting Company’s interests in real property are properly erected and maintained, together with identifying trespass or illegal mining
  • Identify and advise Land teammates and other Newmont functions on land acquisition or permit issues related to laws, regulations, administrative rulings, and case law.

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least five years of experience required
  • Must be proactive, a self-starter, and possess a passion to perform
  • Excellent attention to detail is essential
  • Strong background in economics, real estate and contracts,  general business law, together with a thorough knowledge of public land law, property titles, and substantial negotiating experience.
  • Certified Professional Landman (CPL) or Registered Professional Landman (RPL) designation, preferred.
