About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The ideal candidate for this role will be an agile and financially literate communications executive with deep functional expertise, excellent writing skills and shown success in growing and leading a small, highly effective external communications team within large, capital-intensive multinational organizations with similarly complex and broad external stakeholders, partners and investor groups. Ambitious, progressive professionals with strengths in external relations, public relations and media who understand the challenges of building and maintaining world-class best-practices in culturally diverse, industrial operational settings will enjoy an opportunity to play a central role in collaboratively defining and elevating Newmont's key messaging and strategic communications across all external audiences. 

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • Work in close collaboration with investor relations, sustainability and external relations, internal communications, legal and other groups within the company to reach defined audiences and meet specific program objectives.
  • Build and implement a proactive reputation management and press relations program to favorably position Newmont and its leadership within the trade, business and financial press. Maintain relationships with media outlets (i.e., traditional, financial, industry, and consumer-oriented) and ensure coverage is aligned with the company’s strategic objectives, mission, and values.
  • Ensure that Newmont’s ESG, social, and environmental successes are reflected in the appropriate media.
  • Provide stakeholder and media relations counsel and training to business unit leaders worldwide.
  • In conjunction with IR peers, advise on the content and production of high-profile public-facing documents including annual reports, sustainability reports, media releases, opinion pieces, as well as online content for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop the global brand positioning and narrative. Responsible for outbound communications to ensure consistent quality, voice, messaging, and brand adherence.
  • Maintain a high performing in house digital and social media team and external agencies for public relations and media advisory services. Define metrics and feedback loops.
  • Operate participation in relevant global industry events including PDAC (Toronto), Diggers & Dealers (Australia) and lead the event management function.
  • Drive sophisticated PR campaigns in line with in-country business objectives, projects, including major business decisions and results.
  • Stay current on industry trends, competitors and overall communications, public relations, and social media best practices in order to recommend and implement new and effective programs, as well as internal process improvements.
  • Work in partnership with the regions, to implement local communications and continually assess and ensure relevancy and cultural appropriateness to local employee groups.

Your training, skills, & experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!

  • At least 10 years’ progressive communication experience leading investor relations, external affairs, brand communications, or media relations as part of a corporate communications function. Highly successful track record providing strategic communication counsel and consulting.
  • Experience in a large, publicly held company; global company/international experience. Experience within the industrial sector or a highly regulated industry where public opinion, environmental stewardship and sustainability predominate is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Sound understanding of capital markets combined with strong financial analysis skills and a good understanding of precious and/or base-metal markets or similar extractive, capital intensive sectors would be advantageous. Network of existing contacts within relevant media organizations globally.
  • Executive presence, gravitas and listening skills sufficient to encourage confidence both with organization leadership as well as with external stakeholders.
  • Experience crafting, implementing, and tracking the success of global external communication strategies. Experience leading through transformations and “raising the bar” on performance.
  • Ability to engage with colleagues across time zones, languages and cultures. Demonstrated ability to communicate complicated messages to diverse audiences.
  • Executive-level trusted and experienced change agent with the presence, influencing skills and leadership strengths required to drive enterprise wide cultural change and to interface effectively with broader business internally.
  • Outstanding written, presentation and communication skills are needed.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure. Strong bias for action and willingness to “roll up the sleeves” to accomplish projects on time, with quality.
  • Team-oriented, creative, collaborative, diplomatic and flexible. Ability to develop high impact relationships with senior level executives.

Working conditions & location

The preferred location for this position our corporate headquarters in Denver but qualified candidates willing to relocate to Denver or candidates in proximity to one of our operations or regional offices are also encouraged to apply

The salary range offered for this role is $186,745 to 230,685 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
