About this role:

What will you be responsible for?

The Senior Control Systems Engineer is a member of the Regional Fixed Plant Control team in Americas, and is responsible for maintaining the availability and integrity of the industrial control system (ICS) infrastructure across multiple sites in the American region.  This position reports to and supports the Regional Control Systems Manager (Group 3 – Americas). 

The incumbent provides technical expertise on DCS, PLC & SCADA configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance and upgrades. The incumbent also provides technical mentorship for networking, telemetry, and all site OT infrastructure including the PI Historian suite of applications.

Supervise other Control Systems Engineers/Specialists, also train/mentor less experienced Control Systems Engineers/Specialists.  

Support maintenance, control room / operations and projects departments to safely improve production capacity across both processing and mining facilities. 

Collaborate with control system vendors to run minor upgrades, patching and incorporate new products reliably into the site ICS.

Lead the implementation and utilization of Newmont standard ICS applications for alarm and controller performance, downtime reporting, electronic shift logging.

Implement change requests and project support, adhering to existing site configuration standards and MOC processes. 

The incumbent has sufficient experience in mineral processing and mining facilities to understand and handle the risks associated with any temporary or permanent changes to the site industrial control system.

Participate in the global fixed plant control system community of practice where lessons learned and standard methodologies are shared. The incumbent is also required to recognize and replicate where appropriate best-practice solutions provided by the global fixed plant control system community.

This position is regionally based. That is, the incumbent may provide dedicated support to a single site, or provide general coverage for all sites in the region based on the incumbent’s skills and experience and the business needs.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

•    We monitor multiple sites control system infrastructure status and resolve any issues identified
•    Supervise Control Systems Engineers/Specialists
•    We train/Mentor less experienced Control Systems Engineers/Specialists
•    Implement temporary and permanent change requests to ICS software/application
•    We implement and/or support projects impacting on site industrial control systems
•    Monitor, report and improve the key ICS performance metrics (alarm & controller reporting, system availability etc)
•    We diagnose and resolve operations and maintenance issues related to the industrial control system.
•    Support the site OT infrastructure and applications, including the PI Historian suite
•    We participate in the global process control community
 

Your training, skills, and experience checklist:

Training:
•    Tertiary Qualification in control systems engineering, or related field

Experience:
•    Minimum 8 years’ experience working with control systems in any related industry
•    Previous supervision experience is helpful
•    Significant and demonstrable experience in at least one of the following systems

  • Schneider Modicon PLC’s
  • Rockwell Control / Compact Logix PLC’s
  • Emerson DeltaV DCS
  • Citect SCADA /Wonderware HMI systems
  • Yokogawa Centum VP DCS

•    Significant exposure and understanding of industrial Ethernet networks
•    Significant exposure to ICS communications protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, Profibus etc.
•    Significant exposure to IT/OT fundamentals including virtual server installations, database management, active directory management, cyber-security,
•    Knowledge and understanding of OsiSoft PI application suite desirable
•    Knowledge of industry standard methodologies for industrial control systems

•    High attention to detail and effective communication
•    Ability to mentor and influence technical resources regionally and globally
•    Ability to interact competently with stakeholders at different levels up to and including site process managers
•    Ability to work effectively with site and broader control system teams

Working conditions and location:

Where you will be located!

•    The position is required to travel regularly between sites located in North America and Suriname.
•    The position is a hybrid of site-based work and remotely working from home.
•    Locations of work may include: Eleonore Gold Mine in Quebec Canada, Musselwhite Gold Mine and Porcupine Gold Mine in Ontario Canada, Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine in Colorado USA, Merian Gold Mine in Suriname, Company Corporate Office (Denver, Colorado, USA) and/or working from home.
•    Point of hire is preferably USA and Canada; other Latin American country based candidates may be considered.
•    The role may occasionally be required to travel to other regions internationally

The salary range offered for this role is $98,400.00 - 129,150.00. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.   

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
