About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The Senior Consulting Geostatistician (SCG) will act as a professional for geostatistics, providing high level consulting and ensuring accurate implementation of geostatistics in long and short term planning, ore control, and modeling. High level consulting extends to Newmont projects and operations. This high level consulting includes application of nonlinear and multi-element methods.
Assist in the mentoring and development of a global pool of Newmont geostatisticians / resource estimators.
Implement uncertainty tools (conditional simulation) and other state-of-the art practices into geostatistical consulting.
International travel to Newmont sites encouraged.

Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

General duties

  • We ensure accurate geostatistical estimation at specific sites through monitoring, guidance, knowledge of key personnel, and regular site interaction.
  • We perform work as a member of a cross functional team. Communicate effectively about technical issues.
  • We perform high-level geostatistical consulting on complex projects from order of magnitude to production. Support operations with high level geostatistical consulting, providing creative solutions for sophisticated estimation problems.
  • We support retention of global high potential geostatisticians through mentoring and support.
  • We support implementation of existing simulation tools and improved techniques for use in pit optimization and quantification of uncertainty in Newmont plans.
  • We implement Functional Standards and Guidelines at operating sites.
  • We review ore control, bench heights, drill hole spacing, reconciliation and other issues at operating sites. Identify problems, develop and facilitate implementation of solutions.
  • We search for cost saving opportunities where standard methodology implementation can impact higher grades, minimize misclassification, and optimize material routing to improve additional revenue opportunities at operating mines.
  • We identify and communicate resource modeling risk and uncertainty. Collaborate effectively with partners on implementation of uncertainty results to improve project and operational decision-making.
  • We support internal auditing completed through the internal Newmont Reserve and Resource Review. Collaborate with site teams to resolve identified issues and implement agreed upon solutions.

  • We demonstrated ability to identify, mentor and develop high potential technical staff and collaborate with exploration and mine staffs for exchange of geologic ideas and information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with, working within, leading, and/or managing aligned cross-functional teams. Works seamlessly with, and to improve, own and other teams. Consistent & direct involvement with inter-disciplinary teams.
  • We lead, coordinate and or technically collaborate on functionally and globally diverse teams for small to large due diligence and corporate acquisition and merger opportunities. Expected to recognize, quantify and capture existing and future value of any natural resource prospect/discovery/project/mine.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Knowledge:

  • B.Sc. degree with fifteen years minimum experience in application of geostatistics and geostatistical modeling. Experience in nonlinear and multi-element methods. MSc or PhD will credit years of experience.
  • Must be a recognized Proficient/Qualified person by all national and international reporting standards.

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years or more of experience with geostatistical modeling software, including ability to develop software utilities to support modeling. Python programming a plus.
  • Extensive experience in operations and operational issues related to geostatistics.
  • Work experience in 1st, 2nd and 3rd world countries.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills for presentations to site management, executive management, market analysts and outside parties.
  • Ability to work with teams, peers and managers.
  • Able to conduct and deliver results with only a general strategic mentorship framework. Position requires ability to work under a wide degree of freedom to think through problem resolution alternatives and options, all within a broadly defined project scope.
  • Strong technical writing, public presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Where you will be located!

  • The position is located in the Denver corporate office.
  • Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites.
     

The salary range offered for this role is $127,360 to 167,160. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
