About this role

What will you be responsible for?

 The Manager Strategic Resource Development (SRD) has a global scope that works with all technical functions.

 The Manager Strategic Resource Development will draw on operating and shown experience to apply diversified engineering, critical thinking and sophisticated planning, modeling and optimization processes to develop practical solutions to near and long-term strategic issues and opportunities and provide a strong basis for asset improvement priorities.

Generate value and reduce risk to Newmont’s business plans and reserve estimates through the applications of Operations Research (OR) and Smart Mine technologies.

Implement and add mine optimization workflows and algorithms into Newmont’s suite of mine planning tools.

Assist in the mentoring and development of a global pool of Newmont modelers and mining engineers.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • We interrogate data, analyze and communicate demonstrated production and cost performance, compare to business case; Build and reconcile customized models to evaluate and optimize key drivers
  • We support regional mine planning engineers in the development of strategic mine plans through the use of advanced OR techniques.
  • We conduct original research and development on groundbreaking mine planning and resource modeling systems through independent study or collaboration with academic and/or industry groups.
  • We contribute to the development and implementation of standards and guidelines for application to Newmont projects and operations.
  • We assist in the development of a technical framework and future path for the strategic mine planning process and tools

Your training & experience checklist

  • B.Sc. or MSc. degree in geology, mining engineering or geostatistics.
  • Professional experience must include a minimum of three years of experience in underground mine engineering and planning.
  • Proficiency in applied mathematics, programming skills, problem solving and 3D visualization.
  • Strong technical writing ability is required to prepare documentation to clearly describe methodologies used and report associated results.
  • Able to work with minimal or no supervision, effectively plan, coordinate and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • A minimum of five years of industry experience in the application of technical systems to mining or an equivalent combination of training and experience, including a background in modeling, geology, mining engineering or geostatistics.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to test new technical concepts and methodologies for mine planning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to contribute to interdisciplinary work teams to complete complex resource modeling and mine planning efforts.
  • Advanced degree in projects, finance or planning preferred.
  • Critical work values include flexibility and adaptability, collaboration with others and the ability to plan and deliver work results with quality, accuracy and punctuality.
  • Visible leadership in safety, health and S&ER.
  • Strong understanding of mine planning and OR techniques.
  • Experience in working with and supplying services in a variety of cultural environments.
  • Solid understanding of cost-benefit/value creation analysis, project management methodologies.
  • Able to communicate highly technical concepts to non-technical management.
  • Cross functional Business and Technical Acumen across business cycle – understanding financial implication of technical drivers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to requirements from the business and stakeholders.
  • Ability to present ideas (own and others) to the table when not encouraged to meet with acceptance and spur the dialog

Working Conditions and Location

Where you will be located!

The position is located in the Denver corporate office.

Position is required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites.

The salary range offered for this role is $111,000 to 145,635. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.   

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
