The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ 120,500 - 180,700 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

The Principal Advisor – Process Control is a member of the global fixed plant control team and is responsible for identifying, designing, supporting the implementation of, and reviewing the quality of process control optimisation improvements to drive value across Newmont’s fixed plant assets globally. The Principal Advisor - Process Control will work with site and central technical resources to ensure the safe delivery of processing automation improvements and will be responsible for the quality of the work delivered by the Senior Process Control Engineers in the technical resources group.

Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • Identify and value improvement opportunities, by engaging with site and central teams, and by analysing operational data. Also identify KPIs that can be measured to define and value improvements.
  • Design control strategy and automation solutions for highly complex control challenges; support Senior Process Control Engineering team in by reviewing design solutions for challenges of lower complexity.
  • Support and monitor the implementation of the automation solutions, ensuring adherence to best practise in coding, graphics, change management and operator handover.
  • Develop processes to enable benchmarking of site process control and optimisation performance and perform ongoing quality review of effectiveness of process automation solutions that have been previously implemented to ensure process is optimised as expected.
  • Train and mentor central and site Engineering resources in best practice in Process Control and Optimisation.
  • Maintain a library of best-practise process control practises and support rapid replication of these best practises.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist:

Here what we need from you: 

  • 8-10 years experience in Process Control Engineering and/or Processing Optimisation.
  • Extensive experience in optimisation of processing plants; including site-based process control roles
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practise in control and optimisation theory and strategy
  • Experience in mentoring technical resources highly regarded
  • Experience in gold processing preferred but not essential
  • Demonstrated experience in using analytical tools to assess process and automation performance (eg. Plant Historians, Excel tools, etc)
  • Working knowledge of key control systems highly regarded: Yokogawa Centum; Allen-Bradley Rockwell PLCs; Schneider Modicon PLCs; Citect SCADA; Emerson Delta-V DCS; Rockwell Factory Talk View SCADA
  • Able to rapidly understand and communicate complex control challenges and solutions
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Effective people management, training and mentoring skills
  • Advanced computer competency and experienced in the use of applications including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office

  • The role is global in nature, encompassing work at various sites as well as remote work from home. It demands significant flexibility in roster arrangements to meet the diverse business needs across multiple site locations.
