About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The Director Strategic Resource Development (SRD) has a global scope that covers diverse and sometimes conflicting priorities. The position reports to the Group Executive, Strategic Resource Development.

  • The Director Strategic Resource Development will draw on extensive operating and proven experience to apply diversified engineering, critical thinking and sophisticated planning, modeling and optimization processes to develop practical solutions to near and long-term strategic issues and opportunities and provide a strong basis for asset improvement priorities.
  • Leads the evaluation and generation of fully coordinated strategic plans and options analysis for SRD engagements and integrates the strategic options with the long-term production planning process, facilitating the analysis and decision making.
  • This work is carried out by leading SRD engagement teams and working in collaboration with Mine Engineering, Technical Planning, Business Planning, Geology, Process and Support functions.
  • Interfaces at all levels, including regular collaborate with the site and regional leadership teams and corporate leaders. Leads the SRD process for strategic analysis, regional and portfolio strategies.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • We conduct site visits, interviews and lead workshops to ascertain the value chain including key drivers, constraints, challenges and opportunities, and define methodology for modeling and analyzing key drivers. Lead coordinated planning sessions to categorize strategic options and develop a case matrix and work plan.
  • We interrogate data, analyze demonstrated production and cost performance, compare to business case; Build and reconcile customized models to evaluate and optimize key drivers.
  • We analyze individual options to understand issues, source of value, costs, risks and estimated NPVs and develop resource development strategies.
  • We effectively communicate resource development strategies and associated risks.
  • We engage with key partners throughout the SRD process including oversight of technical work done by regional and site technical teams and ensure that accurate quality controls are in place. Lead multi-disciplinary teams in SRD engagements.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Knowledge:

  • Seasoned knowledge of mine design, production scheduling, equipment selection, capital and operating cost estimation, processing methods, maintenance, water management and commercial aspects.
  • Extensive value chain and production planning experience in sophisticated multi mine, multi process situations.
  • First-hand experience with permits and S&ER areas.
  • Broad, multi-disciplinary, international experience in a variety of geological, exploration, mining and processing environments with particular exposure to gold and/or base metals mineral resources.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field with 10+ years experience in mining.
  • 10-15 years progressively responsible experience in mining, processing as well as planning, budgeting and financial management in the mining industry preferred.
  • Recognized Proficient/Qualified person by all national and international reporting standards with ten years minimum experience in resource/reserve reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical staff and understanding and presenting management expectations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Transparent leadership in safety, health and S&ER.
  • Strong understanding of Resource and Reserve estimation standards.
  • Experience in working with and supplying services to international operations in a variety of cultural environments.
  • Solid understanding of cost-benefit/value creation analysis, project management methodologies, and change management including partner engagement and communications.
  • Driving towards conflict resolution and having the authority to make decisions that impact delivering of solutions.
  • Able to communicate highly technical concepts to non-technical management.
  • Cross functional Business and Technical Acumen across business cycle – understanding financial implication of technical drivers.
  • Abilities to engage effectively with partners on both delivering answers and ongoing engagement.
  • Flexibility to adapt to requirements from the business and partners.
  • Ability to present ideas (own and others) to the table when not encouraged to meet with acceptance and spur the dialog.
     

Working conditions and location

Where you will be located!

  • The position is located in the Denver corporate office.
  • Position is required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites. 
     

The salary range offered for this role is $127,360 to 167,160. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
