In This Role You Will

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret required geotechnical data, and develop confident recommendations for improvement to the Mine Planners.
  • Ensure implementation, use and maintenance of ground and slope performance monitoring systems.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of Ground Control Management Plan (and Facilities Geotechnical Monitoring Plan) across the mine site based on relevant Newmont standards.
  • Conduct geotechnical reviews of mine designs, investigating for all relevant slope failure mechanisms and communicate any potential risks to key individuals.
  • Handle inspection, evaluation, and reporting of all significant slope instability related incidents. Provide input and recommendations for improvement to Mine Planners and Mine Operations for safely working around and/or remediating the slope instability.
  • Ensure that all work activities align with regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly communicate with other departments/functional groups (hydrology, geology, mine operations, environmental, technical services, etc.) to optimize the ability for all groups to obtain the necessary information and/or accomplish a shared objective.
  • Produce and distribute geotechnical reports and documentation.
  • Conduct, document and communicate findings from audit/review and quality assurance programs.
  • Budget and appropriately forecast any necessary geotechnical work or monitoring equipment.
  • Recognize and manage risk within day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure external consultants and contractors providing third party work for the geotechnical group are aware and are adhering to Newmont policies and safety procedures.

Your Training, Skills and Expereince Checklist

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology
  • Advanced level technical communications, personal interaction and presentations skills
  • Analytical skills oriented to understanding, communicating and improving plans
  • Strong work ethic, committed to following applicable regulatory requirements
