Purpose
Manage and coordinate the activities related to mine closure, ensuring that they are carried out efficiently and in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Planning and coordinate social closure by serving as an interface between the Peru Social Responsibility team, the closure planning technical team and the formal closure studies.
Provide direction to closure studies and the technical closure team in understanding the risks, issues and potential impacts of closure on the community.
This position plays a strategic role by providing social and community expertise to the Yanacocha S&ER and closure teams and to any future closure-related studies/projects to improve efficiency in the business.
Essential Duties
- Develop and oversee mine closure strategies that comply with social, environmental and safety regulations.
- Support the development of the social and community aspects of the Yanacocha closure plan and for any future closure studies/projects with identified actions, strategies to track, address, mitigate and minimize any potential issues or problems related to mine closure.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure closure plans are effectively executed.
- Perform risk analysis and mitigation to minimize social and environmental impacts.
- Coordinate and manage all closure-related communications and engagement activities with stakeholders and communities.
- Provide advice, make and recommendations, including relevant presentations to senior management on strategies and programs that are critical to Yanacocha in the area of Social Closure.
- Provide support to the Newmont Closure Study Team on relevant Stage 2A, 2B+3 activities and objectives.
- Implement and promote good social, environmental and safety practices at all stages of mine closure.
- Manage budgets and resources necessary for the implementation of closure plans, as well as administrative activities.
The above responsibilities are the main responsibilities of the position. The position also develops other activities that are not included in this document and the immediate supervisor is responsible for informing such activities.
Training & Experience
- University Professional Degree in either: Business Administration, Social Studies, Metallurgy, Environmental Studies, Legal, or another related course.
- Additional post-graduate studies would be preferred. For example, a Master or other similar certifications
- At least 10 years working in the area of social and community relations in the mining, oil and gas/ extractive industry.
- Advanced English (Spoken and Written).
- Advanced Computer Knowledge: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), MS Project and SAP.
- Experience should include developing plans and strategies, comprehensive experience in social and community risk and mitigation work, drafting communication materials, presenting and communicating with both internal and external stakeholders, implementing monitoring programs for projects, developing measurable social/community metrics.
Working Conditions
- You must be able to work remotely, in the office or the mine.
- The work schedule is weekdays and weekends off. In the case of mine work, this schedule could change as required to comply with the inherent activities of the position.
- You will need to be able to travel and assist other organization locations nationally and internationally.
- Residence in Cajamarca.
