Location: Santiago de Chile, Chile

Oversees all aspects of Engineering under the Investment System Stage 3-4 and provides engineering and project management services in support of the development of the Yanacocha Sulfides Project, including management of contractors, consultants, and associated project staff. Provides Subject Matter Expertise in Piping Engineering. Requires 50% travel.


Plans, conducts, and leads projects in the areas of  engineering management, value improving practices, alternatives evaluation, design and engineering, procurement and contracts, and cost/scheduling.  Responsible for the leadership of Piping  Engineering, including management of consultants and SME in Strcutural Design.

Essential Duties
  • Manages the technical Piping scope part of the EPCM and the Piping engineering scope under the EPCM, ensuring the delivery of the technical scope.
  • Ensures adherance to project standards, processes, systems and procedures to meet the Piping engineering technical scope
  • Responsible for Piping engineering input in the application of value improvement practices (VIP’s) asisgned to the project, including HAZOPS and Risk Management.
  • Responsible for Piping engineering progress, change management, and technical input into Procurement, and SOW to contracts.
  • Responsible for the Piping engineering inut into gate deliverales: Execution Plan, Gate Repoert, CAPEX/Opex, Engineering Plan, schedule and budget.
  • Responsible for the implementation of Newmont’s safety, health and environmental standards as part of the project design criteria (Piping) and directs mitigation strategies to support a work environment that is protective of human health and the environment.
  • Manages the Owner’s Piping engineering team under the EPCM. Responsible for the Piping scope delivery by the EPCM’s Piping Lead.
  • Drives and aligns the project business and project objectives to the Piping engineering technical scope.
  • Develops engineering options incorporating cross-functional elements
  • Ensures completion of all Stage deliverables, technical peer reviews, and Gate Documentation.
Training & Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering related to Mechanical Engineering  and minimum of 20 years project and engineering management experience, including experience with brownfileds international projects. A minimum of 15 years experience piping engineering  SME is required.

The incumbent will possess the personal qualities of professional leadership, superior intellectual capacity, sound judgement, strong interpersonal skills and business savvy.

The person will have a proven track record in project execution and solid mine/process operational knowledge and will have demonstrated a commitment to the successful implementation of the project


Working Conditions
  • Position is located at the EPCM Office in Santiago de Chile, with travel required to the Lima and Cajamarca, Peru; Denver, Colorado; and Toronto, Canada on a scheduled basis and as required by the EPCM Manager.
