Reporting to the Mine Technology Supervisor, you will be responsible for the configuration of all aspects of the wireless communications network, two-way radio network and associated server infrastructure.  You will routinely monitor and optimise network health and provide technical direction to the Mining Technology Communications Technicians as well as coordinate all maintenance activities on switches, servers, firewalls and wireless LAN controllers within the scope of the Mining Technology department.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure the mining systems infrastructure is supported, maintained and monitored for high availability which may include, but not limited to, Wi-Fi, Microwave, Switches, Firewalls and Communications rooms.
  • Provision of subject matter expertise and guidance to the Mining Technology team on network operations and support.
  • Configuration, support and implementation of Cisco switches, Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers, Prime Infrastructure and Mobility Services Engine.
  • Author, maintain and manage detailed network documentation, drawings and device configurations.
  • Support implementation and configuration of Cisco wireless network security features.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure network security design caters for their requirements.
  • Generate and analyse network performance reports against required KPIs.
  • Carry out optimisation techniques for optimal site wireless network performance
  • Responsible for ensuring that the mining operational communications infrastructure is maintained to provide reliable services for Boddington, including working with service providers to ensure that the network is stable and highly available.
  • Ensure that the logical and physical network is performing as required and work with internal and external service providers to repair and restore service as needed.
  • Coordinate, configure and test network equipment firmware upgrades.
  • Maintain and review system logs and network performance.
  • Ensure all state, federal (ACMA) and national communication licensing and compliance requirements are met.
  • Assist with developing associated cost budgets and monitor and develop methods to meet the budgets.
  • Participate in the preparation and submission of requests for quotes, bills of material and capital submissions for all equipment required for providing Network communication services.
  • Co-ordinate network procurement.
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont’s methodologies, policies, procedures and standards. 
  • Maintain a consistent high quality of work across all responsibilities.
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont Occupational Health and Safety policy and procedures. Consistently demonstrate and encourage safe work practices.
  • Promote and comply with Newmont goals and values.


Who you are

  • University Degree or equivalent experience in a technology related field
  • Network and CISCO certifications will be highly regarded
  • Extensive experience in network support in operational environments
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Cisco Industrial Wireless and Cisco Wireless Lan Controller based products
  • Experience in the preparation of design, build, implementation and test documentation
  • Designing highly detailed configuration of Cisco networks and wireless equipment
  • Knowledge in network design standards, processes and tools
  • Strong mix of operational, functional and technical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with vendors, colleagues, clients and customers at all levels
  • Overall understanding of the objectives and functions of the company, business units and departments serviced by technology
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project) and Visio competence
