Purpose

Provide direction and focus from the ventilation group to help achieve and surpass the mine’s safety and production targets and to add value to the operation.  This position will mentor and motivate a ventilation team that works effectively and efficiently with other departments.  Evaluate and stage the ventilation system to ensure long term safety and production goals can be achieved and sustained.

  • Be proactive with respect to safety; incorporate best industry practices into the ventilation system designs.
  • Ensure the ventilation group works safely, striving to achieve zero harm to people and property

Responsibilities

 

Promote Safety and Sustainability

Develop plans and ventilation system designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards.

  • Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.
  • Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental practices.
  • Maintenance of a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness.
  • Raising, discussion and resolution of safety issues at regular meetings.

Mine Ventilation Planning and Design

  • Become proficient with staging the ventilation system using Ventsim Visual.
  • Ability to extract data from Deswik (CAD & SCHEDULE) for the ventilation system design.
  • Optimize the ventilation system through collaboration with other departments.
  • Oversee planning activities to ensure airway dimensions are appropriate, layouts are appropriate, effective and scheduled to be on time.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
  • 3 -5 years of mine  engineering (including operational) experience. Would be an asset but not required
  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of Mine Ventilation Principles and Design
  • Strong Ventsim Visual Skills
  • Strong Deswik Skills – (CAD, IS and Scheduler)
  • Able to mentor and motivate the ventilation team. 
  • Have strong communication and people skills. 
  • Able to impact and influence in order to gain the alignment of the Technical Services team, operations, and Corporate Ventilation SME.
  • Ability to effectively establish priorities and help to align upcoming work to planning staff.

Working Conditions

The work schedule for this position is 14 days on, 14 days off, working 12-hour days.
