Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Underground Electrician is responsible for carrying out the servicing, repair and maintenance of fixed plant electrics utilising relevant test equipment in a safe, efficient and timely manner.

In this role, you will

  • Carrying out routine electrical maintenance of the fixed and mobile and equipment to the required standard of performance and safety;
  • Ensuring all work is completed in a timely manner, thus minimising down time;
  • Maximising highest possible level of plant availability by ensuring all scheduled electrical maintenance is carried out in a timely manner;
  • Work orders completed in a timely manner to the standards set by the Electrical Supervisor;
  • Meeting company maintenance and production objectives by ensuring all electrical installation and maintenance work is carried out to relevant Australian Standards and regulations;
  • Ensuring the workshop and yard are kept tidy and that the plant site is left tidy after any work is carried out;
  • Carrying out statutory testing of all electrical equipment as required under AS3000 and Northern Territory Government Regulations

The person

  • Trades qualified Electrician
  • Experience in the industrial electrical field
  • Electrical Trade Qualification and Northern Territory Grade A Workers License
  • Current CPR/LVR
  • Completion of Certificates of Compliance as required under the Northern Territory
  • Experience in the mining industry.
  • Experienced in the testing and certifying of new installations
  • To be considered for this role, you must be able to meet the site access requirements by having a current driver’s license, passing a police clearance and pre-employment medical.

Working conditions

The role is based in Tanami and offers a FIFO roster from either Perth, Darwin, Alice Springs and Brisbane.
