Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.

In 2021, Newmont formed a strategic alliance with Caterpillar Inc. to deliver a fully connected automated, zero carbon emitting, end-to-end mining system.
 
Critical to our company’s vision for zero emissions mining, Tanami is testing and developing industry-first battery electric haulage technology for underground mining, to support the future deployment of battery autonomous technology and a battery electric zero-emissions underground fleet. 
 
To support our Tanami Operations as we embark on this exciting journey, we are expanding our Site Information Technology team and seeking technology professionals who are passionate about developing and implementing world-leading underground mining technology.

In This Role You Will:

  • Meet maintenance and production objectives by ensuring all maintenance and installation works are carried out.
  • Complete communication infrastructure maintenance or installation tasks.
  • Assist with commissioning and start-up of new installations.
  • Act as a technical reference point and mentor to other personnel within the department.
  • Implement minor software / hardware / graphic interface changes in accordance with site standards, operating procedures, tools and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and vendors to develop solutions and seek resolution to complex communication problems.
  • Assist in the development of operational and functional procedures related to systems within area of responsibility.

 

About You:

  • Trade level qualifications in Communications, Electronics or Electronic Systems.
  • Open Cabler Registration with Structured, Optical Fibre, Coaxial endorsements.
  • Significant experience with mining communication software and hardware installation, maintenance and fault diagnosis on systems and equipment including, but not limited to VHF & UHF Systems, Leaky Feeder radio system, PED, Caterpillar MineStar Vehicle Proximity and Automation Systems fibre optic splicing and commissioning, CCTV, and a sound knowledge of IP Network planning and configuration.
  • Ability to lead work teams (sub-contractors) and apply analytical thinking to problem solve. 
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • High level of planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to read complex electrical drawings.
  • Current Australian C class, manual driver’s licence.
  • Working at Heights ticket and EWP licence (desirable).
