About this role

What will you be responsible for?

The main objective of the position is to provide the leadership, planning, and strategy for the safe and effective execution of the mine loading and hauling activities that will assist the overall Newmont Suriname Operation to achieve the monthly, quarterly, and annual targets and ensure achievement of progressive, sustainable improvements across the Mine Operations consistent with Operational Goals and Objectives. The loading and hauling cover the entire mine area, such as the pit, waste dump, stockpiles, and mill feeder areas. This role will closely work with all sections in Mine Operations such as Drill&Blast, Pit services\projects, and Mine Maintenance. Also work closely with  Mine Technical Services, Process Plant operation, Tailing construction team, Environmental teams, and HSE teams, to achieve the mining target and the mill throughput target and support the completion of the Tailing Storage Facility.

Health and Safety 

  • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont's Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
  • Comply with all HSLP, Environment, and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont's Integrated Management System.
  • Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his/her supervision.
  • Assure that safety standards are adhered to.
  • Ensure that all procedures of Loading and Hauling are up to date

Operational 

  • Budgeting and evaluate equipment and production options
  • Assist with the evaluation of capital projects
  • Coordinate maintenance of equipment with the Maintenance Department. 
  • Work closely with Mine Engineering, Geology, D&B, Dewatering, Pit Services\Projects, Environmental, HSLP, Process Plant  and Human Resources Departments to ensure best practices and optimal production.
  • The Mine Operations Superintendent will take an active role in the Tire Awareness Program promoting the mine site to meet or exceed budgeted tire life.
  • Assist with hiring, training, evaluation review process, disciplinary, mentoring, line-of-progression, and other personnel-related actions.
  • Ensure compliance with government laws and Newmont Standards
  • Oversee meetings and training in all areas for all levels of mine operations personnel.
  • Managing fleet requirements to meet production goals in the safe way.
  • Managing and improving the effective use of the availability of load and haul equipment by reducing delay and standby.
  • Managing and responsible for full potential projects within mine operations.
  • Support any pit dewatering, geotechnical monitoring, haul road maintenance, projects around pits and dumps
  • Ensure all mining personnel comply with Newmont HSE standards 
  • Ensure all operators comply with appropriate training.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of the Government of Suriname's Agencies, shareholders' interests, environmental health and safety legislation, and company standards.

Other

  • Supporting Process, TSF, and Environment groups.
  • Managing business partners in the best interest of the company 
  • Assists as required with the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

 

Here is what we would need to see from you!

 

Knowledge: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in mining or geology or engineering or over 12 years of relevant mining experience with increasing levels of responsibilities

Experience: 

  • Minimum 10 years of practical experience, extensive experience in Open Pit operation supervisory 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Able to clearly explain tasks and inspire others with varying backgrounds and perspectives
  • Fluent English speaker (written and spoken), dutch preferred.

Working Conditions

 

Where you will be located!


This position is located at Merian, project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment

The Merian mine is located in North-eastern Suriname, approx. 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo; 60 kilometers south of Moengo.

Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace 

Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.
