About this role

The role of the Environmental Technician is multifaceted and crucial to ensuring environmental compliance within our operations. This position involves the meticulous collection of samples encompassing air, soil, water, and process solutions. Adhering to stringent standard operating procedures and permit requirements, the Environmental Technician plays a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of environmental quality and sustainability.

Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • We collect field samples in support of CC&V Sustainability & External Relations department. This may include the collection of air, soil, water, and other samples. Water samples to be collected may be from the following sites: solution pipe discharge, solution line ports, process ponds, streams, springs and seeps, production wells, and monitoring wells.
  • We complete vital field inspections as advised, including the inspection of barrel storage areas.
  • We ship collected samples to offsite analytical laboratories for quantitative and qualitative analysis. Package samples in coolers with sufficient ice to keep samples cool (Packaged coolers can weigh up to sixty pounds).
  • We communicate optimally with supervisor and others verbally and written, through email, memos, and reports.
  • We compile and present groundwater data as needed. As necessary prepare reports in agency format. Prepare and distribute semi-annual and annual environmental compliance reports.
  • We assist the Environmental Specialist in the completion of quarterly water quality monitoring reports.
  • We have the ability to work outdoors in inclement conditions.
  • We have the ability to be On-Call as part of the department On-Call rotation.
  • Work collaboratively with others. Develop working relationships with co-workers and other departments to facilitate problem solving, trouble shooting and task completion.
  • We follow state and federal health and safety regulations, company policies, and procedures, and the companies environmental compliance policy.
  • We promote Newmont environmental stewardship values and permit compliance within the workforce.
  • We maintain spreadsheets, enter data and build graphs using Excel software. Input, output, and run data within EHS Data – Monitor Pro 5 software as the need arises.
  • We collect data from and program various data loggers as necessary using proprietary software.
  • We perform light maintenance on sampling pumps, generators, and equipment.

Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!

  • Two years of experience as an environmental or hydrology technician preferred
  • Solid understanding of proper sampling techniques and procedures
  • Possess a working knowledge of environmental requirements
  • Previous mining experience is helpful

Working Conditions & Location

  • The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is situated at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level. As such, you must be physically capable of working at these altitudes.
  • Be prepared for frequent and potentially severe changes in weather conditions, requiring you to perform tasks within varying environmental challenges and altitudes.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $66,960- 79,515. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.   

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
