About This Role.

  • To coordinate and provide shift direction to the operators on operational activities of the mine crew in the open pit area, in a safe manner, and coordinate resource allocations to effectively complete the activities.

In This Role You Will.

Mine Operations Planning and Operational Execution.

  • Oversee the shift to daily operational execution of mine plans and make necessary adjustments to meet daily target projections. 
  • Coordinate and pair Operators with the relevant equipment and allocate job assignments. 
  • Supervise the operators in the loading, hauling, road maintenance, reclamation, wall cleaning, road construction and maintenance activities. 
  • Hold Operators accountable for the work completed by administering discipline, facilitating corrective actions, monitoring KPI’s, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. 

 

Stakeholder Management and Engagement.

  • Coordination with various departments is crucial for completion of daily Mine Operations shift activities. 
  • Suggestions from other departments can help identify opportunities for improving mine efficiency and productivity. 
  • Liaise with the Training Department to arrange training schedules for the national workforce. 
  • Overseeing that Mine Operations shift work meets established statutory standards is important. 

 

Mine Operations Post-Shift Handover.

  • Ensure post-shift handover includes communication of work status, hazards, and shift changes to incoming Shift Supervisor and Dispatcher. 
  • Ensure a shift-end log book report is prepared to outline shift activities, breaches, and incidents. 

 

Health and Safety Management.

  • Ensure adherence to strict internal health and safety standards and accept personal responsibility for employee safety.
  • Ensure hands-on assistance is provided during operations activities to ensure safe work practices. 
  • Ensure Mine Operations work hazards are inspected prior to the start of the shift to detect safety, personnel, and production problems. 
  • Ensure periodic safety meetings, inspections, and daily pre-shift staff debriefings are conducted. 

 

Staff Management.

  • Create a suitable shift work environment to motivate Operators to achieve optimum effectiveness and productivity. 
  • Supervise all direct reports by conducting crew assessments, developing the team, contributing to performance appraisals, and participating in team performance management calibrations. 
  • Recommend further training courses and development actions, implement training schedules, and coach and mentor staff. 
  • Enhance communication with staff through regular feedback, contact, meetings, and briefings. 

 

Mine Shift Operations Optimization and Continuous Improvement.

  • Suggest opportunities for continuous improvement for Mine Operations activities.
  • Report and escalate all accidents and incidents occurring in the shift to the General Foreperson for immediate review.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist.

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations).

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mine / Civil Engineering, Geology or related field.

 

Additional Knowledge.

  • Mine Foreman Certificate.
  • Ghana Statutory Certification for First Aid and Blasting.

 

Experience.

  • Minimum of 5 – 8 years’ experience in a mining environment, with a minimum 2 – 3 years’ experience should be in a shift supervisory capacity.
